This, of course, reminds me of the incredible series by Douglas Adams - the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or HHGTTG for those more familiar. More than just a great series of books, Aurther Dent has made appearances in radio, television, and movies (did you catch the newest one?). There's even at least one video game.
